Have
you heard?
The Internet
is projected
to be the ONLY
medium that
will CONTINUE
to see advertising
growth. Other
mediums like
television,
magazines and
newspapers
are projected
to either stay
the same or
decline [most
of them will
decline].
Knowing how
to leverage
the Internet
in your business
will be key
to your own
growth.
There
are many ways
you can adapt
your marketing
dollars to
reach new clients
while seeing
a healthy return
on your investment.
SEO and SEM
are terrific
places to start.

Search
Engine
Optimization
--
SEO
|
Yahoo, MSN
and Google
are the current
leading search
engines --
the sites most
of us use to
find products,
services or
information
that will meet
a need. We
type words
and phrases
into these
sites and they
give us 2 types
of results.
One
type of result
is called an
'organic
or natural'
result -- the
websites listed
who matched
our search
words. They
also give us
sponsored
links --
advertisers
who show up
on the top
or side [or
both] of the
search engine
because your
keywords presumably
match the products
or services
they sell [and
hope you'll
buy].
SEO
is concerned
with the first
type of result
- the organic
result. Surprisingly,
70% of businesses
fail to optimize
their web presence
for natural,
organic searches.
If
your company
is lucky enough
to be listed
on the first
page of an
organic result,
you can stop
reading now
because you
already know
about SEO.
Search
engine optimization
(SEO) describes
the process
of making your
website search
engine-friendly
[notice how
I'm assuming
you already
have a website..]
-- meaning,
you're building
a site that
a search engine's
spider or robot
can easily
follow.
Why
is this important?
As many as
10,000 websites
are added to
the Internet
DAILY. All
search engines
have developed
ways to categorize
sites so that
when conduct
a search, they
want to give
you sites that
will meet your
needs.
There
are many ways
to optimize
your site so
that search
engines will
list your site
higher:
Registration:
Begin
by
letting
the
search
engines
know
your
site
exists
by
registering
your
site
with
directories.
Start
with
the
biggies:
Yahoo,
Google,
MSN,
Snap,
Open
Directory
Project,
ExactSeek,
and
Jayde.
Links
from
other
sites:
Search
engine
spiders
move
from
site
to
site
across
the
Internet
by
following
links.
Every
link
to
your
site
from
another
website
acts
as
a
vote
for
your
site,
and
this
boosts
your
ranking.
Some
exceptions:
link
farms
and
paid
links
are
viewed
as
bad
by
search
engines
so
it's
best
NOT
to
be
affiliated
with
either.
Internal
links:
Make
sure
your
site
is
well-organized
and
easy
to
navigate.
Don't
use
graphics
as
buttons;
use
actual
words
--
this
helps
spiders
navigate
all
the
pages
of
the
site.
Site
maps
are
a
good
way
to
help
robots
too.
Meta
tags:
Meta
tags
are
hidden
HTML
directions
for
Web
borrowers
or
search
engines.
They
include
important
information
such
as
the
title
of
each
page,
relevant
keywords
describing
site
content,
and
the
description
of
the
site
that
shows
up
when
a
search
engine
returns
a
search.
Make
sure
your
meta
tags
accurately
describe
your
content.

II.
Search
Engine
Marketing
--
SEM
|
SEM
involves targeting
potential customers
by purchasing
relevant keyword
ads on search
engines --
you see them
all the time.
Interchangeable
phrases for
SEM include:
click-through-marketing,
pay-per-click
marketing,
sponsored links,
Google Ads,
etc.
The
more targeted
your advertising,
the higher
your "conversion
rate." Conversion
rates refes
to the percentage
of ads that
actually convert
to sales or
some other
desired action
(such as registration).
One way to
ensure that
your prospective
customers are
qualified is
to buy ads
according to
specific search
engine keywords
that a user
might submit.
